Central
Ohio Regional Science & Engineering Fair
Organization
Information
Background & History:
For the last 22 years and ending in 2003, the Ohio
Legislature, along with some private donations, has given
funds to the Ohio Academy of Science to fund the Buckeye
Science & Engineering Fair. This fair was affiliated
with Science Service in Washington, D.C. The Science
Service organization oversees the scientific method and
protocols used by all projects competing in the Intel
International Science & Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF).
Students who are finalists at the regional fair can compete
at this international competition. When funding was lost,
Central Ohio high school students had no pathway to reach
the Intel ISEF. CORSEF was formed to meet the need to give
these students of math & science the opportunity to
represent Ohio and compete with students from around the
world.
Mission Statement:
The mission of this Regional Fair is to provide equal
opportunities for Central Ohio high school students to go
to the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.
We hope to instill a strong interest and enthusiasm for
science, math, and engineering in these students.
Funding:
We are thankful for the continued support we receive from:
Battelle Institute, Chemical Abstract Society, Burgess
& Niple, and The American Society of Civil Engineers
(Central Ohio Section). We were graciously hosted by DeVry
University 2004-2007, who donated the use of their
facilities at no cost to CORSEF. Thanks to Columbus State
Community College for the use of their facilities for the
2008 CORSEF Fair.
Community Support:
Our students receive mentoring from many of the wonderful
research facilities located here in Central Ohio. These
institutes and the individual researchers who take an
interest in young scientists make this program possible.
The Ohio State University, Children's Hospital Research
Clinic, Battelle Institute, Chemical Abstracts, Ashland
Chemical, James Cancer Research Hospital, and DelCo Water
Treatment Facility have acted as mentors for Central Ohio
students in the past. This strong community support and
commitment to young scientists has made Central Ohio a
leader in providing education opportunities and early
research experience.
